Occupational Therapist

Emma is an Occupational Therapist who joined Symmetry Injury Rehab in 2024. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Active Health and Rehabilitation and a Certificate in Health and Fitness Studies from Simon Fraser University (2019). She then worked as a Kinesiologist prior to obtaining her Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of British Columbia (2023). As part of the program’s Northern and Rural Cohort, Emma had the opportunity to complete her fieldwork placements in rural and remote communities across BC, she has a strong interest in expanding equity and access to health care for British Columbians that live, work, and play in these areas.

During her time as a Kinesiologist, Emma worked in a multidisciplinary clinic where she developed and implemented active rehabilitation programs for a variety of clientele including neurological, musculoskeletal, and mental health conditions. She had the opportunity of working in community and clinic settings with pediatric/youth, adult, and older adult populations.

Upon obtaining her Master’s degree, Emma began working in the acute care setting where she worked in a variety of inpatient medical units including acute stroke, oncology, palliative care, surgical, emergency, and intensive care across 3 different hospitals within the Eastern Fraser Valley. She gained experience in assessing physical, cognitive, and psychosocial functioning, complex discharge planning, and providing recommendations to facilitate safe and timely discharges. She also gained experience in the assessment and treatment of occupational performance issues resulting from a stroke, brain injury, or other neurological condition in the outpatient rehabilitation setting.

Emma has a strong interest in neuro-rehabilitation, specifically stroke rehabilitation. Additional experience and areas of interest include home adaptations, aging in place, seating and positioning, mental health, return to work, facilitating community reintegration and behavioral activation programs, and cognitive rehabilitation. Emma is always seeking out educational opportunities to expand her skills and practice knowledge in these areas.

Outside of work you can find Emma walking along the Vedder River, hiking in the local mountains, or camping with her partner and dog.
