Rehab Assistance
What is Rehab Assistance?
Rehabilitation Assistants (RAs), also called Occupational Therapist Assistants (OTAs), are health professionals who work under the direction and supervision of an Occupational Therapist to improve a client’s physical and mental functioning and quality of life during recovery from illness or injury. At Symmetry, our Rehab Assistants work with you at home, in the community, or at your workplace, as part of your rehab team.
How can a Rehab Assistant help you?
We provide one-on-one support to help you get back to the activities that matter. We begin by learning about your injury, your goals, and how you navigate daily life. We work closely with your care team to develop a personalized plan that fits your needs—whether that means support with daily tasks, cognitive skills, getting back out into the community, workplace assistance, or guidance in completing your exercise program.
What to Expect
Sessions take place in your home, community, or workplace. You’ll work with the same Rehab Assistant or Kinesiologist for consistent care, and we adjust your program as you progress. Our team comes to you, so your rehab fits your schedule and environment.
Working With Your Healthcare Team
Rehab Assistance programs are aligned with goals set by your Doctor, Occupational therapist, or care team. We follow the plan they set, keep them in the loop, and work with you so your whole team is aligned and you get consistent support.
Support Between Appointments
We help you stay on track. Whether it’s practicing exercises at home, problem-solving daily barriers, or building a routine that works for you, we’re there so rehab feels doable and consistent week to week.
Built Around You
Rehab Assistance is designed around your goals, your schedule, and where you are. We meet you at home, in the community, or at work, and adjust the plan as you progress so it stays realistic and fits your life.
Health Benefits
Rehab Assistance is often covered under extended health benefits. We can help you check your plan and, when needed, provide what your insurer requires.
Program Funding
Coverage may be available through ICBC, Veterans Affairs Canada, WorkSafeBC, or other programs. We can help you understand what might apply and how to access it.
No Coverage
If you don’t have coverage through a plan or a program, you can still access our services. We’ll discuss options and fees with you so you know what to expect before you start.
